Discretionary Funds Management

Fat Prophets now gives UK investors the opportunity to invest an exciting and innovative new service, the Discretionary Managed Portfolio. A choice of two model portfolios is offered based on our successful Australian strategies managed by Fat Prophets founder Angus Geddes and his team.

Since launching in mid-2007 in Australia, the Fat Prophets Separately Managed Accounts’ Concentrated Australian Share and Mining & Resources strategies have both significantly outperformed their respective benchmarks.

While new to the UK, the Discretionary Managed Portfolio is based on the Separately Managed Account, a popular alternative to Mutual Funds in the US, where around $1.5 trillion is invested. They are generally available only to wealthier investors with a minimum investment of at least $100,000.

Fat Prophets now offers these benefits to UK investors, but with a low minimum investment of £25,000 (or £10,000 ISA Transfer)

Compared with traditional managed funds, benefits include:

Expert Portfolio Management – access to individual discretionary management by our team headed by Angus Geddes. A service normally available only to High Net Worth investors.

Tax efficiency – no inherited tax liabilities and the ability to minimise CGT payable by “harvesting” gains or losses. May also be held in an ISA, SIPP, or Offshore Bond.

Flexibility – choice of model, or combination of models:

Concentrated UK Share Strategy: objective to outperform the FTSE 100 Accumulation Index

Mining & Resources Strategy: objective to outperform an equally weighted composite of the FTSE 350 & FTSE AIM Basic Resources and FTSE 350 & FTSE AIM Oil & Gas Indices.

May be structured to include or exclude investments already owned (or prefer not to own.)

Transparency – shares are held in the investor’s name, not the fund. Portfolio may be viewed anytime via secure online account, including stocks held, performance, and fees.

Low charges

A Regular Contribution Plan is also offered enabling further ongoing additional investments, spreading the cost over a period (also known as pound cost averaging.)
